Spanish 2023-2024
INTRODUCTION: The Spanish course will cover the fundamentals of the Spanish language and the Spanish speaking culture. The objective is for the scholar to be proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish.
For Interpersonal Communication – Speaking/Listening and Writing/Reading: The scholar will negotiate meaning through the spoken and written exchange of information in rehearsed and unrehearsed situations in a variety of contexts. The student will use a mixture of short statements and sentences using appropriate and applicable grammar structures and processes at the specified proficiency levels.
For Interpretive Communication – Reading and Listening: The scholar will comprehend simple connected statements from culturally authentic print and digital materials and audio and audiovisual materials as appropriate within contextualized situations and sources. The scholar uses the interpretive mode in communication using appropriate and applicable grammatical structures and processes at the specified proficiency levels.
Presentational Communication – Speaking and Writing: The scholar will present information orally and in writing using a mixture of phrases and sentences with appropriate and applicable grammar structures and processes at the specified proficiency levels.
The learning culture will be based on mutual respect and courtesy of each person’s unique learning method and individual personality. Extra help and tutoring are available upon request.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:

Entering Classrooms - Enter wearing ID, in dress code, greeted by the teacher, as well as students greeting the teacher. Make sure they are respectful and following protocol. (Teachers will check for ID and dress code BEFORE before the scholar can enter the classroom.)

Existing Classrooms - Scholars are required to clean their area, turn in any assigned work/exit ticket, REMAIN seated until dismissed by your Spanish Instructor, and exit on level 1.

Managing a Device (Chromebook, Calculator) - Scholars are expected to bring a charged chromebook everyday to class to use during the appropriate times.

Addressing a Need (Use Restroom, Get a Supplies, etc) - NO restroom passes will be provided during the first 20 minutes and the last 20 minutes of class (unless it is an emergency). NO restroom passes will be provided during the lunch period. Please get your materials prior to sitting down unless instructed differently by your Spanish Instructor.

Managing a Cell Phone - Cell phone free zone…. Cell phones are NOT ALLOWED Smart watches, headphones, ear pods, and earbuds CANNOT be worn during the class. CELLphones, headphones, smartwatches, earpods, and earbuds MUST be put into the scholar’s backpack prior to entering into the classroom or they can have their phone placed into the wall cellphone holder until the end of the class.
IF SCHOLAR HAS THEIR CELL PHONE, HEADPHONE, SMARTWATCH, EARBUDS, or EAR PODS ON THEM (including pocket)OR USES ANY OF THE LISTED ITEMS DURING THE CLASS, THE SCHOLAR WILL BE ASKED TO TURN THE CELL PHONE and/or ITEMS TO THE TEACHER UNTIL THE END OF CLASS. IF THE SCHOLAR REFUSES, THE SCHOLAR WILL BE ASKED TO TURN IN THEIR CELL PHONE and DEVICES TO THEIR ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL.
*No Cell phones, NO Headphones or earphones, NO hats or wearing hoodies
*NO Food or Drink. Clear water bottles with a top to seal the bottle are allowed at the student’s desk.
CLASS ASSIGNMENTS AND HOMEWORK POLICIES: Class assignments and homework is part of the school’s academic program. Both provide students with the opportunities to practice, study, and improve their knowledge of the subject. It is also a vehicle for the scholar to develop personal responsibilities and allows parents to know what their scholar is learning in school. Assignments and homework given will be reasonable. Each scholar is responsible for completing and turning in all assignments and homework on time.
GRADING: The district’s grading guidelines are followed. The scholar’s academic progress is available on SKYWARD (Parent’s Portal). Projects/Test 60% Daily Assignments 40%
REDO WORK: The district guidelines are followed for redo work and tests.
LATE WORK: Late work will be accepted up to 3 days past the due date, with a 10-point deduction. After three days of the due date, the assignments will receive a zero.
EXTRA CREDIT: Extra credit may be given throughout the school year at the discretion of the teacher.
ABSENCES: It is the scholar’s responsibility to get ALL class notes and work that was missed during their absence. Scholars should follow up with the instructor the first day of their return to school.
